People often think that eating habits are only related to our cravings, but that is not entirely true. It is related to a person’s mental health condition, which leads to an overeating problem. Such patients need treatment, which can be provided by eating disorder health centers.

These eating disorder treatment centers provide extensive care and treat the mental health condition of the person. So, it’s important to understand one’s patterns and how these patterns could lead to different disorders.

Anorexia Nervosa

The most common eating disorder is anorexia nervosa. It mostly happens because of a person’s insecurities about their body or skin. When someone bullies you or has done body shaming or called you fat, and they don’t talk about it with anyone, it leads to severe depression.

So to get accepted by society, people start neglecting food and develop a hate relationship with it, which leads to anorexia nervosa. This happens due to a mental health condition caused by people’s words.

You must take that person urgently to a residential eating disorder treatment center so they can understand their mental and physical health condition and get treated accordingly.

Bulimia Nervosa

When a person goes through traumatic events, it causes depression and stress, which also raises cortisol levels in the bloodstream. Eating comfort food releases dopamine, which makes you feel happy and helps you manage stress.

When they feel this happiness, it leads to getting addicted to the food, and they start eating repeatedly, which causes a condition called bulimia nervosa. They lose control over eating, and it leads to various health issues. Psychotherapy and other medical treatments are provided to treat these patients.

Avoidant / Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

ARFID doesn’t occur due to body image or weight concerns, but it happens due to a lack of interest in the food or the fear of negative consequences. Some people are extremely sensitive to the food odor, texture, taste, and smell, so they avoid various foods. Many of them also show disinterest in eating and often forget to eat.

ARFID also develops when a person has faced choking, vomiting, or any allergic reaction, which develops the fear in them, and they can’t eat it again. It can cause mineral and vitamin deficiencies in the body, and they need treatment to help them understand and resume normal eating.

OSFED

Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder is the typical one because in this a person could be overeating or not eating at all, as there are various forms of it. But with this condition, their weight remains the same and is not significantly affected.

The body fights constantly because it is given the highest food sometimes and sometimes put on a starvation diet, so it’s important to get treatment at a professional eating disorder treatment center early.

Pica and Rumination

Eating substances like ice, chalk, clay, paper, etc., is a sign of a medical condition called pica, which is most common in young children.  Rumination is also a disorder in which food is swallowed back into the mouth. These are caused by intellectual disability or anxiety and can be treated at an eating disorder center.
